Tobias

New item (finally) added to Etsy! Title inspired by a week-long rediscovery of Arrested Development in preparation for the new season in May(!!!!!). I also think Tobias would make an excellent name for a rooster. Check it out!

Day Two: start of oil series!

This is my second blog post and second attempt to shamelessly promote my art online. Saturdays are always crazy for me, because I'm usually scheduled to work at both of my jobs and barely have enough time in between to grab a sandwich and change clothes. Luckily, this morning my enthusiastic and (very) vocal Jack Russell Terrier, Scout was kind enough to wake me at the crack of dawn, allowing for a quick oil painting session before job number 1 began.
After an adolescence of painting with oil, I spent my time in undergrad learning for the first time to use acrylics and was surprised by how much I grew to love them. Although nothing can compare to the smell, feel and depth of color given by oils, the ability to work quickly and easily fix mistakes makes acrylics incredibly attractive to me.
In the last few weeks, though, I've started to miss the sensual pleasure of painting with oils and decided to dive back in. It's been fun, but I'm beginning to realize just how underdeveloped my patience level has become. They take SO long to dry.
Here is this morning's very wet and very unfinished creation:

Although it's hard to think of a title at this stage, I'm thinking of calling it "Blue Roses". Any thoughts?

My first post!

Hello all! Today my blog "The Whistling Painter" is born. This blog's purpose is to promote the paintings I create this Spring and Summer, and possibly for the remainder of the year...depending on how rigorous graduate school proves to be. In a frenzy of networking inspiration, I paused work on my first oil painting of the season and created this blog. As I type this, I am covered in Cadmium Yellow paint, linseed oil and charcoal and am completely clueless about what I should write for this maiden entry. I'm sure as I continue to post I'll get the hang of what one should and should not say in an art blog. Because I don't yet have that knowledge, I'll leave you all with the link to my newly activated etsy site and a photo of my most recently finished painting, "Barra".

"Barra" (acrylic on Masonite)

Cheers!
